CLOISONNÉ ENAMEL FROM GIORGIA | 2013 12 10 – 12 17

Georgian enamel is an example of long-standing traditions and craftsmanship. In Georgia, the most careful and complex enamel technique flourished in the Middle Ages and has survived to this day: partition (cloisonne) enamel. Currently, the collection of works of art of the old septum enamel is kept in the State Art Museum of Georgia in Tbilisi.

Partition enamel was remarkably perfected in Georgia; this technique has survived both ups and downs. However, it is currently popular among both artists and craftsmen. This medieval technique requires from the authors angelic patience and excellent knowledge of the craft, great craftsmanship and color hearing. Partition enamel is a technique by which the created works seem to balance between watercolor, small plastic and graphics, because the creator must feel the form and color, and at the same time – control the line that separates one color from the others. But unlike fragile watercolors or printmaking, these linear but eye-catching works with a watercolor surface are not only for the eye, but also for the body.

Contemporary Georgian enamel is as colorful and luxurious as it is historic. Relying on a long-standing tradition, respecting and protecting it, Georgian artists still manage to give their works a modern look. In cooperation with the gallery “Ornament” from Georgia, the well-deserved enamel art center in Vilnius, the gallery “Meno niša” presents the exhibition of contemporary Georgian enamel “Cloissone enamel from Georgia”. This collection of Georgian enamel reflects the harmony of tradition and modernity and gives the Lithuanian viewer the opportunity to immerse himself in the vortex of bright colors and shapes of Georgia. The exhibition exhibits about 100 enamel works of art made using the partition enamel technique. Twelve authors selected by the “Ornament” gallery showcase complex and luxurious works of jewelry and small plastic, which make you admire both the meticulousness of execution and the sense of color and form. Georgian enamel, refined and ornate, unfolds before the eyes in all the variety of colors and shapes, bringing warmth and brilliance to the wet and dark Lithuanian December.

Opening of the exhibition – 2013 December 10 Tuesday, 6 p.m. in the MENO NISA gallery The exhibition will be open only until December 17.
