St.. Baltramiejus fair on August 28, 2021

 

August 28 In Vilnius, in the workshops of Old Crafts and on the street next to them at the address Savičius st. 10, Vilnius will host a symbolic Historical St. Bartholomew’s Fair is a celebration of the town’s crafts, arts and guild traditions of the late Middle Ages and Renaissance. Although the fair has been known to the people of Vilnius since the middle of the 17th century, when it was mentioned in the first statute of the potter’s workshop in 1664, its eve dates back to 1495. on August 24. Then St. On the eve of Bartholomew’s Day, Grand Duke Alexander approved the statute of the first LDK guild and the Vilnius goldsmiths’ guild was granted the privilege of the ruler.

The organizers invite residents of Vilnius and guests of the city to celebrate this festival of the city’s artisans together. Historical St. Baltramiejus fair is a certified part of Lithuanian national heritage, nurturer of revived crafts and cultural traditions of the city. This revived celebration is an intangible cultural heritage value that significantly strengthens the cultural content and importance of the historic city center of Vilnius – a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
