Exhibition of Enamel art and workshop in Vilkamirgė

An enamel art exhibition is currently being held at the “Vilkamirgė” gallery, brought to Ukmergė by enamel artist, enthusiast, and promoter, as well as the curator of the International Enamel Art Biennale, Marytė Dominaitė. The biennale, held every two years, is the only professional enamel art event in the Baltic States. The “Meno Niša” gallery has been organizing it for 16 years.

For this exhibition, M. Dominaitė has brought the installation “Duke Gediminas’ Cloak,” created for the 700th anniversary of Vilnius. During the anniversary year, M. Dominaitė conducted enamel art educational workshops, which were attended by about 300 people, both locals and visitors from abroad, including children and adults. Together, they created the Duke Gediminas’ “cloak” made of 700 copper plates, decorated using enamel techniques.

Another part of the exhibition features enamel art pieces by artists from Lithuania, Spain, and Georgia, created over the past 40 years.

Enameling is the process of coating metal objects with enamel. The most commonly used base is a copper plate, onto which a glass enamel paste is applied, and then the object is fired in a special kiln at temperatures of 700–900°C until a glassy coating is formed.

On the opening day of the exhibition, M. Dominaitė led an enamel art educational session, where visitors from Ukmergė had the chance to try out this technique.

The exhibition will be open in Ukmergė until November 30th, at Kęstučio Square 8-8. It can be visited from Tuesday to Friday during working hours, and on Saturdays from 10:00 to 15:00.
