V INERNATIONAL BIENNIAL OF ENAMEL ART VILNIUS 2013
5th International Biennale of Enamel Art “Vilnius 2013“
October 3 – November 31, 2013
Gallery Meno niša, J. Basanavičiaus str. 1/13, Vilnius
Enamel Biennale takes place in Vilnius every two years. Beginning in 2005 was modest enough. But now, about the fifth one, you can no longer say that: the map of the biennial is expanding, the number of artists is increasing.
The fifth biennale now proudly showcases artists from fourteen countries, with the number exceeding half a dozen. The Art Niche, as always, showcases a panorama of impressive and professional enamel. Aristocratic, ornate, attractive, mysterious enamel reveals its inexhaustible possibilities in the gallery. Visitors are invited to enjoy the abundance of colors, shades and motifs in Vilnius, which is traditionally the international capital of enamel in the month of October.
Biennale “Vilnius 2013” presents the works of authors from distant, exotic countries – Venezuela, Taiwan, as well as from neighboring countries – Russia, Belarus, and Latvia. Indeed, the panorama presented in the gallery is very broad: from the authors of the participating countries, one can get an impression of the prevailing attitude towards enamel in Spain or Russia, one can admire the unfathomable diligence of the Taiwanese Chun-Lung Hsieh or the professional works of the Spanish patriarch of enamel, Andreu Vilassi, which attract the eye at every biennale. You can contrast transparent, poetic enamel with ironic and shocking, you can consider the relationship between form and decor. It is possible to compare the treatment of enamel by artists from different countries: this time, authors from Lithuania, Hungary, the Netherlands, Canada, France, Spain, Russia, Japan, Sweden, Georgia, Belarus, a large group of Taiwanese artists, and Venezuela are participating. Different authors, extremely different sizes, nature and approaches of the works. A small enamel work can contain an incredible amount: a breathtaking technique, a witty thought or a lyrical mood.
Therefore, the harvest of the fifth Vilnius Biennale is abundant: not in the size of the formats, but in the knowledge of the craft and the concentration of thought, a strong enamel, which can be seen again in the “Art Niche” that tirelessly nurtures this art branch of jewelry.
