Lithuanian Enamel at the International Enamel Biennial in St. Petersburg | 2010 06 10 – 07 03

On June 10, the international biennale of enamel art “Images of White Nights” opened in St. Petersburg, and will run until July 3. As a continuation of the traveling jewelry project “Juvelyrika luggage” organized by the “Meno niša” gallery, the exhibition of twelve Lithuanian jewelers – “Secrets of Lithuanian enamel” – is presented at the biennial.

The main goals of the biennale are to popularize enamel art, reveal the possibilities of complex enamel technique, design trends prevailing in Russia and foreign countries not only to specialists in this field, but also to the general public. During the biennial, there will be lectures, presentations of enamel techniques used in various countries, as well as a competition program in which Lithuanian representatives will also compete. Lithuanian authors use various types of enamel: next to works made with the traditional cloisonne technique – three-dimensional sculptural forms covered with enamel, paintings more reminiscent of watercolors, small circular saws – suns dedicated to St. Bruno, and many other objects.

Gallery “Meno niša” exhibits the works of well-known Lithuanian artists – Arvydas Gurevičiaus, Tados Deksnis, Vytautas Matulionis, Marytė Gurevičienė, Šarūnė Vaitkutė and Dainiaus Narkaus, Vita Pukštaitė-Bružė, Sigitas Virpilaitis, Saulius Vaitiekūnas. The exhibition of their works perfectly reflects the enamel trends prevailing today: conceptuality, technical perfection, precision and painterliness – these features are characteristic of all authors. Visitors to the “White Nights Pictures” biennial in St. Petersburg and Moscow will be able to see for themselves, where the exposition will be moved later.
