Exhibition ONE GRAM OF GOLD | 2011 12 13 – 2012 01 10

On 13 December 2010 (Monday), 6 p.m., the Gallery of Goldsmith Guild “Meno Niša” is laying a golden carpet and launching the last exhibition this year – One Gram of Gold.

In continuation of traditions, the Goldsmith Guild revives the idea of an exhibition held some time ago, inviting Lithuanian jewellery artists to take part in it.

This year, the exhibition presents famous jewellery and graphic artists who, in one or another manner, use gold in their works. For some authors gold is interesting as a material featuring very rich plastics and specific colour, while others are attracted by a mysterious radiance of gold, play of textures and relations with other materials and shapes. However, exhibits in “One Gram of Gold” will contain as much gold as there is talent and artistic inventiveness in the works of the artists.

Among the most famous Lithuanian jewellery artists, such as the Krivičiai, Solveiga and Alfredas, Jurgita Erminaitė, Marytė Gurevičienė, Arvydas Markevičius, Ugnė Blažytė, Algirdas Mikutis, Saulius Vaitiekūnas, Šarūnė Vaitkutė and Dainius Narkus, as well as other recognised and newly discovered gifted jewellers, the exhibition will also host Latvian artists Anna Fanigina, Marta Krasta and Finnish participants Nikolai Balabin and Melitina Balabin. The graphic artists’ wing will be represented by Eglė Kuckaitė, Tatjana Diščenko, Raminta Šumskytė Sum, Elvyra Katalina Kriaučiūnaitė, Birutė Zokaitytė and others.

Yet, gold is a special and capricious metal which requires special attention. With this in mind, Gallery “Meno Niša” invites visitors to a golden festivity with a golden carpet, songs of the Golden Age and other golden surprises. The exhibition is open by 31 December.
